Pregnancy Chiropractic in Worthington

Growing a baby is hard work! If you’re dealing with an achy back, sore hips, trouble sleeping, or that “everything feels out of place” feeling, you’re not alone. And if you’re hesitant to take medications while pregnant, chiropractic care offers a safe, natural way to stay comfortable throughout all three trimesters.

At Graceland Chiropractic, Dr. Dean Haldeman, Dr. Thomas Corbin, and Dr. Emily Powers provide gentle, pregnancy-safe adjustments to help you feel better and prepare your body for birth.

Why Chiropractic During Pregnancy?

Your body goes through massive changes during pregnancy. Your center of gravity shifts. Your ligaments loosen (thanks, relaxin hormone). Your pelvis tilts. Your lower back curves more than usual. All of this can lead to pain, stiffness, and discomfort–and there’s not much you’re allowed to take for it.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy focuses on keeping your spine and pelvis moving properly so your nerves, muscles, and joints can handle the extra weight and shifting posture without breaking down. When things are better aligned, your body adapts to pregnancy more easily.

And here’s the other benefit: when your pelvis is balanced and moving well, labor and delivery often go more smoothly. We’re not saying chiropractic guarantees an easy birth, but it can help create the conditions for your body to do what it’s designed to do.

What Chiropractic Can Help With

Pregnant patients often come to us for:

  • Lower back, hip, and pelvic pain
  • Sciatica or leg pain
  • Restless legs
  • Carpal tunnel-like symptoms in the wrists and hands
  • Trouble sleeping or getting comfortable
  • Stress-related muscle tension
  • Preparing the pelvis and lower back for labor

We also use the Webster Technique when needed. This is a specific chiropractic protocol that balances the pelvis and may help give a breech baby more room to turn. It’s not a guarantee, but many moms have had success with it.

After the Baby Arrives

Once you’re cleared by your OB (usually around 6 weeks postpartum), we’d love to see you back for a checkup. Your body just went through a major event, and even if you feel fine, there’s often residual tension or misalignment that benefits from being addressed.

And yes, we see newborns too. Birth can be traumatic on a baby’s body–whether it’s a vaginal delivery or a C-section. A gentle check in those first few days or weeks may help with issues like colic, latching trouble, torticollis, and fussiness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is It Safe?

Yes. We adjust pregnant women throughout all three trimesters, right up until labor starts. In fact, some of our patients come in for an adjustment on their way to the hospital to be induced or have a scheduled C-section. And as soon as they’re cleared after delivery, many moms come back–often with their newborn in tow.

How we adjust you changes as your body changes. In the first trimester, you might be fine lying face down. By the third trimester, we’re using side-lying positions, pregnancy pillows, and tables with drop-away sections to keep you comfortable.

Every adjustment is gentle and tailored to where you are in your pregnancy.

How Often Should I Come In?

It depends. Some women do well with monthly checkups. Others benefit from coming in more frequently, especially in the third trimester when things are shifting rapidly.

We’ll recommend a schedule based on how you’re feeling and what we see during your exam, and we’ll adjust it as your pregnancy progresses. If something flares up between visits–maybe you slept wrong or lifted something awkwardly–don’t wait. Come in sooner.
